In the AreaWhile it is tempting to stay and enjoy the peace and tranquility of the North Shore, the island of Oahu offers wonderful outdoor adventures. Many attractions are less than an hour away. Here are a few ideas for a day’s excursion: Polynesian Cultural Center: Immerse yourself in the culture and traditions of the islands. Dole Plantation: Everything you always wanted to know about the pineapple, and more, including history, a garden maze, a train tour, and delicious tastings. Pearl Harbor: The USS Arizona Memorial, floating atop the wreck of the bombed USS Arizona, is a moving tribute to the 2,000 people who died on December 7, 1941. The complex also includes a submarine, the USS Bowfin, and the battleship on which the terms of Japanese surrender were signed, the USS Missouri. Waikiki: Check out the world-famous beach, climb Diamond Head, do some designer shopping at the open-air Ala Moana Shopping Center, and have a mai-tai at the Cobalt Lounge at sunset. Honolulu: Greet the King Kamehameha I Statue; visit the Honolulu Zoo for a glimpse of Hawaii’s state bird, the nene; and stop by the Waikiki Aquarium to see sharks and monk seals up close. Adventure Excursions: Ask the concierge about whale-watching (November-April), deep-sea fishing, scuba diving, snorkeling, sailing, windsurfing, kite boarding, biking, ecotouring, kayaking, shark tours, submarine tours, and outer island trips. |
What a wonderful spot of paradise! This was our first trip to Hawaii and we feel lucky to have stumbled on the best way to experience it. We loved the spaciousness and layout of HALE KAI. The views from the villa are incredible. We enjoyed the gorgeous beach, which was perfect for sunbathing and watching the surfers. And there’s nothing better than a walk around the golf course in the morning to work up an appetite for breakfast in the villa. Bill and Catherine Lacy |
