Activities at Turtle Bay

Why Visit Oahu?

Why visit Oahu? With a rich culture and history, white sand beaches, championship golf courses, luxurious private villas, amazing surfing, world-class shopping and fresh flavors, there is something for everyone on Oahu.

Surf’s Up

The island is a surfer’s heaven, so whether you are a seasoned surfer or have never been on a board before, take advantage of what Oahu has to offer. Take a surfing lesson from Hans Hedemann Surf School at Turtle bay resort – the Turtle Bay local Surf School - or the firemen surfers at the Hawaiian Fire Surf School and then hit the waves at one of Oahu’s gorgeous beaches, including the Banzai Pipeline, Ehukai Beach Park, Sandy Beach Park, Sunset Beach, Waikiki Beach and Waimea Bay.

Things to Do In Kahuku

On Oahu’s legendary North Shore, check out the attractions in Kahuku. Make time for a round of golf at the Palmer Course or the Fazio Course, 18-hole, ocean-view courses located at Turtle Bay Resort. Watch artisans work on their crafts Kahuka Mill Shopping Center, an old sugar mill turned into a tourist attraction. Some of the most famous surfing spots on the island can be found here as well.

Oahu’s Rich Culture and History

To learn more about Hawaii’s rich culture, take a scenic drive to the Polynesian Cultural Center, a cultural theme park where visitors can participate in the daily adventures of Hawaiian and other South Pacific cultures. Explore the seven native villages, watch a canoe pageant and end the day by participating in an authentic Hawaiian luau, a feast with music and dancing.

The island of Oahu is home to Hawaii’s capital, Honolulu. There you can browse the eclectic and diverse galleries in the Arts District, soak up the history and feast on dim sum in Chinatown, visit America’s only official royal residence at Iolani Palace or bask in the sun on the world-famous Waikiki Beach. West of Honolulu is Pearl Harbor, a must-visit, especially for history buffs. The USS Arizona Memorial marks the resting place of many of the sailors killed on the ship during the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Breathtaking Landscapes

Look into the heart of the volcano (now dormant) at Diamond Head, a 350-acre volcanic crater known to Hawaiians as Laeahi. Bring a water bottle and a hat and get ready for a 90-minute climb that has pill boxes from WW II and ends with spectacular views of Waikiki and the Pacific Ocean. Fans of the television series Lost will recognize the landscape, since the popular series is filmed entirely on Oahu. Lost was filmed at Turtle Bay.

Oahu – A Shopper’s Paradise

From independent local markets to upscale boutiques to major shopping centers, whether you are looking for handcrafted jewelry or a Hawaiian specialty like chocolate-covered macadamia nuts, you are sure to find the perfect gift on Oahu. Here is a list of shopping centers to get you started:

  • Ala Moana Center: one of the largest open-air shopping centers in the world with more than 200 stores
  • DFS Galleria Waikiki: luxury duty free shopping
  • International Market Place: an open-air market in the heart of Waikiki, built around a 100-year-old banyan tree
  • Pearlridge Center: the largest indoor shopping center in Hawaii is connected by the island’s only monorail system
  • Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center: more than 150 stores and services in a three-story Waikiki complex

What a wonderful spot of paradise! This was our first trip to Hawaii and we feel lucky to have stumbled on the best way to experience it. We loved the spaciousness and layout of HALE KAI. The views from the villa are incredible. We enjoyed the gorgeous beach, which was perfect for sunbathing and watching the surfers. And there’s nothing better than a walk around the golf course in the morning to work up an appetite for breakfast in the villa.
